Nov, 1st, 1982. Honda starts manufacturing cars in America.

Posted

Today in 1982, Honda became the first Asian Auto Company to manufacture cars in USA with the Honda Accord.

A Quick History

In 1937 Soichiro Honda got his start by crafting piston rings for the Japanese automaker Toyota under the company name, Eastern Sea Precision Machine Company. By the 1940’s Honda was helping Toyota in the production of aircraft propellers, but after a 1945 earthquake he sold the remains of his company to create the Honda Technical Research.

With a staff of 12, Honda started making motorized bicycles out of war surplus radio generators. Soon came the first Honda Motor Co. complete Motorcycle, the 1949 D-Type, which led to the first Honda Auto, the 1963 T360 Truck.

The American Honda Motor Company was founded in 1959. As a demand for fuel efficient vehicles grew due to the 1970’s energy crisis, so did Honda Vehicles which ran on both leaded and unleaded fuel. With this growth, on “Nov. 1, 1982 Honda became the first Japanese automaker to produce automobiles in America ... when the first Honda Accord rolled off the assembly line at the Marysville, Ohio, auto plant.”

Today Honda has 12 U.S manufacturing plants producing everything from Motorcycles, Cars, Planes, Lawnmowers, and almost anything that needs a reliable engine. (ohio.honda.com)
